Motive Music Canada was founded in 2005 with the release of Gee Wunder’s commercial radio debut “Got The Feelin'” with E3.  In 2007 the label released artist Chris S.’ self-titled debut album (Produced entirely by Motive label owner Gee Wunder) which received video funding from MuchFACT.  Gee Wunder released his first three LPs via Motive Music in conjunction with Toronto’s URBNET records.   In 2011 Motive Music signed an exclusive distribution deal with Fontana North/Universal Music Canada and released its first project “Disco Nights” LP – The City featuring Gee Wunder & Cory Lee which featured 2 MuchFACT funded videos. Between 2011 and 2018 Motive has released full-length projects by artists; Gee Wunder, The City, Hype, Nyce Touch, Dusty Wallace, Set2, Mezziah, CY On The Beat, BSG To The World, Beatz By Hamid, T. Major, Mac Millon, Price Da Boss, DJ R Dub L, Chris S. & Abaddon.  Many of these artists have charted on www.earshot-online.com and received national airplay via College and Commercial Radio as well as television.  Since 2007 Motive has secured considerable funding from various Canadian grant agencies including MuchFACT, Factor, CIMA & SOCAN Foundation.  Today Motive Music Canada label boasts a roster of 12 artists and a catalogue of over 50 full-length, quality hip-hop releases.  Motive has also released two written publications: #IndustryTIPS: “Starting Your Own Independent Label in Canada in 13 Easy Steps” in 2016 (along with it’s accompanying Live Seminar Series presented at 2018 Northern Touch Music Festival in Winnipeg and 2018 Northern Power Summit and 2018 Canadian Urban Music Conference/TDot Fest in Toronto) and  Music #IndustryTIPS Vol. 2: “For Artists, Producers & Label Types” in 2019.
